Optical fiber cables

Optical fiber cable – cable with one or more glass fibers conducting light impulses. In the telecommunication usually infrared light is used. Cables made of glass fibers are resistant against electromagnetic interferences and have high throughput. Their use allows transmission speed up to 100 Gb/s; quickest optic fiber systems can conduct the signal in magnitude of some Tb/s.

Optic fiber cables exist in two categories:

• single mode (SM)
• multimode (MM)
